  • Run water in the kitchen sink 45 seconds to 1 minute after the food disappears from the garbage disposal before turning it off.
  • Do not grind celery, carrot tops, potato peels, artichoke leaves, onion skins, or any other stringy substances in garbage disposal.
  • Do not put any non-food substances in the garbage disposal.
  • Do not put grease down either side of the sink.
  • If water backs up on one side only, the stoppage is probably in the trap. Try a plunger to clear affected side. If water rises in both sinks, stoppage is probably in the pipes at the entrance to the main line. Call maintenance for assistance.
